I just wanted to take a little time to tell you about my passion for making soap. My inspiration is my Grammy Lutz.
As a farmer's wife she used to make all the soap that was used on the farm. She made what I call the "old-fashioned" kind; the kind that includes lye in the recipe. Lye soap is a little too harsh for my liking. I started branching out into other bath & body mediums as an outlet for my creative side.
After graduating from Penn State in 1996, I moved onto my Grammy's farm. It gave me
a chance to get to know her (we had never lived close before this) and be of help if she
needed me. I treasure the time I've spent with her, she's an amazing lady! I don't know
exactly how the whole soap thing started, it was kind of my way of finding a common
ground with my grandmother...and it just kinda stuck...I found my niche. I've since moved
away (sad face here)...I took a job in the big city (back when I thought climbing the
corporate ladder was my calling).
I absolutely LOVE making soaps and lotions, masks...all of it! I love finding and developing products that actually DO something to help people. My cucumber facial bar is an excellent example of this...I just can't tell you in words just how great this bar is for your face. I use it everyday, no lie. When I'm in the shower I rub this bar directly on my face,
it cuts the morning grease (I'm not the only one with this am I?) and prevents blemishes...I almost never get pimples! Yahoo! I've even had customers tell me that the cucumber facial bar helps prevent red blotching and puffiness! I told you this was an awesome bar!
I'm facinated that so many common ingredients can make such useful products. That's what got me addicted to this!
I wanted to share my love of "cooking" beauty products with you...that's why I've included a few recipes throughout
that you can make at home yourself...maybe with your girlfriends. These are GREAT recipes, recipes that I wouldn't
be able to sell to you without loading them down with perservatives to keep them from expiring, and that just takes away from the freshness and effectiveness of the products. So "cook" away!
While soaps that DO something are my first love...I do have several soaps that simply excellent cleansers for your hands and face as all handmade soaps are (smiley face here). I'm talking about my soaps that smell great, but don't have any great benifical properties (like the cucumber facial or milk & honey...) the watermelon and pretty pink peony are great examples...oh and I can't leave out the chocolate & cantaloupe...oh and eucalyptus spearmint...and honeydew...I love them all (that's why I make them!) ...they are just AWESOME smelling!! You just gotta try them!
To me, every product I make is a work of art. I pour every bar of soap (and mix every lotion, mask etc.) right here in my kitchen...who says a kitchen is for cooking food? I take pride in my work and I am proud to have my work displayed in your gallery (i.e. bathroom).
If you like my "art" please tell your friends, I am always looking for more galleries to showcase my designs (smiley face here).
